Despite my distaste for most things Australian, Underbelly: Razor has proven itself worthy of regular viewing. I guess crime and scandal override the bad accents and cheap sets.

Australia is not the center of the world

I thought it quite laughable as I watched the news on Channel Seven that Julia Gillard “issued a warning”, in the words of the newscaster, to urge the Eurozone leaders to resolve the current debt crisis. Australia is hardly in a position to issue warnings, and I’m pretty sure everyone in the Eurozone would like to resolve the debt crisis…

P.S. I’d really like to watch the All Blacks perform a haka live, someday.

Should I fly to China to spend Chinese New Year? Winter after intense heat in Singapore and Australia sounds good.. And where should I transit? Shanghai, Changsha, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Chengdu…

And my kid sister’s company sounds really nice and fuzzy right now.

Semester II blues

I can’t wait to get my exams over and done with. Next semester seems terribly exciting; learning a new language (German), more history units (Chinese & German history), more politics units (political economies), and possibly one more Asian Studies unit or a Chinese language unit to brush up on my Mandarin. Every semester I complete gets me closer to working life. I’m a little nervous, yet excited as to where it takes me. Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong, being young and in a big city makes me so excited. I know the next few years won’t be financially rewarding, but I will be happy in other ways in terms of lifestyle and travel. Afterall, the 20s are supposed to be the best times of our lives.
In the spirit of big city living, here’s a picture of me and a friend at New Heights, The Bund, Shanghai.

Doing my politics essay on Islamic revivalism in Pakistan. The more I read about Pakistan, the more depressed I feel about the hold of religion over everything else. The dependence of Pakistan on US aid is very troubling, given it is one of the most populous nations in the world. Yet the US continues to give aid to Pakistan to fund its military government because of American interests in the region. When will all this end?

Banking in Australia

Quick rant:

As an ANZ customer, I don’t know why they continually send letters to me even when I’ve opted for online statements. Think of all the money you’d save, ANZ, on postage if you stopped sending your customers useless letters we never open.

Love,
your loyal customer
